Create a Wooden Social Media Icon Quickly with Photoshop

This tutorial will show you a general process for making a wooden, grungy-themed social media icon in Photoshop. I was inspired to create this set (which I call “Derelict”) after having created the metallic equivalent for my free WordPress theme with the same name. This icon style is grungy, evokes emotion and, for once, doesn’t need you to use any glossy effects! The best part is, it’s really easy to make and you’ll be making a bunch of your own icons in no time.

Applying texture to a flat surface, or flatly applying a texture across a whole image (as a means to age it or degrade it) is simple stuff. Realistically applying a texture to an uneven surface is much more hands-on (more so than simply overlaying a texture and changing the Blending mode).
